Therefore Cameroon became a United Republic with a presidential system of Government. Later it was change from the United to the Republic of Cameroon to the Republic of Cameroon. The country also has a parliament elected for five years by universal suffrage just like the president. The Cameroon People Democratic Movement is the leading political party in the country. Cameroon is divided in to 10 administrative regions. The regions are sub-divided into divisions, the division into sub-division and the sub-division in to districts.
The population is also diversified and comprises all the races and human types found in Africa South of the Sahara. In the North you find the Muslim Sudanese, the fulanies and the Hausas and several other small tribes such as the Kirdi, Massa, Matakam, etc. The high plateaux of the west are inhabited by the Semi-Bantu tribes, Bamileke and Bamoun. The south is the favourite home of the Banus, the coastal plains are inhabited by the Bassa and Douala.
