Climbing Mount Cameroon
Mount Cameroon is an active volcano and the peak is over 4,000 meters above sea-level. Despite its altitude, the mountain is easy to climb. What you need is not so much skill in mountaineering as strength, determination and solid pair of legs. The climbing season is between November and May. There are three huts where you can spend the night. Hut 1 is 9 km from Buea < 1,830 m above sea level>. Hut 2 is 16 km away from hut 1, at 2780 meters above the sea level, whereas Hut 3 is 3,950m above sea level. In ten hours can reach the crater which is 4,042 m above the sea level and you require as much time to climb down to Buea. In Buea there are moderately priced hotels where you can spend the night before starting up Mount Cameroon. It is absolutely necessary to get a guide, you may also hire carries, and you will need the following: warm clothing, hot drinks, water, food, bedding, first aid kit.
